crochet love {super hero mask}

My little super hero needed a new mask.

His green lantern mask from his McDonald's Happy Meal just wasn't cutting it.

It was about time I made something for the boys,

and since I crochet everything anyways...

Supplies:

worsted weight yarn (less than 1 skien)

Size H crochet hook

Scissors

Crochet needle

2 pipe cleaners

Elastic

Glue gun

Abbreviations:

sl st- slip stitch

ch- chain

sc- single crochet

hdc- half double crochet

dc- double crochet

tr- triple crochet

  1. Ch 32. Sl st into first ch. Ch 32 again. Sl st into first ch. You should now have to loops, connected at the center.

  2. Working around the first loop, work hdc in next 10 ch. 1 dc in next ch. 1 tr in next ch. ch 2. 1 tr in next ch. 1 dc in next ch. hdc in next 4 ch. 2 hdc in next 3 ch. hdc in next 11 ch.

  3. Working over to next loop. Work hdc in next 11 ch. 2 hdc in next 3 ch. hdc in next 4 ch. 1 dc in next ch. 1 tr in next ch. ch 2. 1 tr in next ch. 1 dc in next ch. hdc in next 10 ch.

  4. Working across to second row on first loop. Work 1 sc in next 12 sts. 1 dc in next ch. ch 1. 1 dc in next ch. sc in next 6 sts. sl st in next 17 sts.

  5. Working over to next loop. Work sl st in next 17 sts. sc in next 6 sts. 1 dc in next ch. ch 1. 1 dc in next ch. sc in next 12 sts. Sl st in first sc and fasten off.

  6. Repeat steps 1-5 to create a second piece.

  7. Place pipe cleaner on each “eye,” sandwiched between the two pieces. Sew the two pieces together around the entire outside and inside edges.

  8. Attach elastic with hot glue to the mask.

It actually took me three tries to get the pattern just right.

I had such a hard time figuring out how to keep the holes for the eyes open.

Finally, with a couple pipe cleaners, I figured it out!

Ande's only stipulation for a super hero mask was that it stay on his head and not fall off while he runs fast.

Mission accomplished.
